Thermal App Challenge 2019-2020

Welcome to the Team Page of the Thermal App Challenge Online Hackathon, where 10 teams from all around the world compete for prizes to come up with the hottest app out there. The apps will be using FLIR® ‘s technology in several categories to come up with solutions proposed by our team of experts.

Milestones per team

During this Online Thermal Hackathon, the teams will complete 5 different Milestones in which they will showcase their projects. This will help Judges to select the winners of the Thermal App Challenge!

Project Essay

In this document, registrants need to explain the main goal of developing their app and describe the methodology that will be followed, laying out the flow and features. Here they have to outline how the user will navigate the app as well as all the features envisioned.

App Demo

The teams prepare a mock-up application describing and showcasing the structure and functionalities involved. This will give a better understanding in an early stage to FLIR’s experts, giving them time to make corrections by making sure that the right methodology is being used by the participants.

Video Presentation

In this last phase, participants should have finalized the development of their app so they have to provide a final video showcasing their work and accomplishments.

Few of these items include:

  • Describing App idea
  • Flow and Features of the app.
  • Design and UX of the app.
  • How to market the app (strategy).

iDoc Thermal Reporting Tool

Brief of the project

iDoc is a reporting tool for electrical safety inspector running on mobile devices. iDoc makes it easy for the inspector to create a professional report. This can be done on-site from his mobile device. iDoc also makes it easy for the inspector to manage customers, projects, etc.

iDoc uses FLIR Mobile SDK to improve the reporting tool and to include connection to FLIR camera for importing images directly into the app. An editor is embedded to adjust the thermal images directly from the app. 

iDoc is also compatible with FLIR Meterlink measurement devices. This enables the inspector to include his electrical measurements, without leaving the thermal inspection report.

Pipe Tracker

Do-It-Yourself Home Repair & Energy Efficiency Applications
Project Brief

Pipe Tracker uses thermal image processing algorithms and to determine pipe installation lines behind obstacles such as the floor, ceiling, and sidewalls.
Pipe Tracker can determine hot or cold pipes using thermal image processing in real-time.
Pipe Tracker could also be used offline on previously recorded image files.

Degree2act

Wildcard Applications
Project brief

Degree2act’s goal is to alert the farmer or vet about possible disease presence, spread and evolution by detecting animals with hyperthermia.

The app allows storing data for later access. The solution is non-invasive, affordable, portable and easy to use. Actual development focuses on facilitating contact between farmer and vet, and integration in other existing health management platforms. 

Degree2act is adaptable to other species. 

Degree2act addresses the global concern for reasonable use of therapeutic resources and antimicrobial resistance by improving herd health through early disease detection.

Thermal photogrammetry inspection app

Do-It-Yourself Home Repair & Energy Efficiency Applications
Project brief

During construction, thermal inspections can be used for a number of tasks ie for cast-in-place concrete, painting, maintenance etc. It is also highly useful for detecting anomalies and problems. The challenge of using a thermal camera unassisted is that it requires an expert to understand what the readings indicate.

This project aims to provide a cost-effective way to use thermal imaging for measuring moisture levels and locate leaks that may occur during construction.

To achieve this, we are developing a thermal app “Introspecta”, a real-time 3D viewer using Augmented Reality to view a combination of photogrammetry and thermal data. By creating thermal photogrammetry scans, the app can intelligently identify areas that require a close inspection, useful both for real-time viewing as well as for expert reviews offsite.

Thermal Inspector

Project brief

Thermal Inspector is a platform not focused on thermal inspection experts but rather at operators and maintenance workers. It consists of a web-portal for reviewing and managing inspections along with an app that can be used to conduct the inspections. Through the interactions of the app, the user is guided through the inspection process in order to make successful inspections without having expert knowledge of the thermal inspection process.

 

Thermal readings are uploaded to a cloud service where they are stored for historical overview and automatically analyzed for heat spikes. If an anomaly is detected by the automatic analysis the user is notified and he can opt to have the readings inspected by a thermal expert through the platform.

 

Thermal Inspector allows electricians and mechanics to increase the value of their often ad-hoc screening processes, to standardize the execution of the screening and also to store the results of each screening for a later review.
